Catching Fire

Having now read the first two book of The Hunger Games series, I have to say the hype surrounding these books is truly deserved. The only time I’ve felt this attached to a group of fictional characters in a book was when reading the Harry Potter books. I might accidentally put in some spoilers in here from now on, I’ll try to keep them to a minimum but read on at your own risk If you have yet read the books.

At the end of Catching Fire I was a bit lost for words really I didn’t expect what was coming now with all the players on the board and the events unfurling as they have done so far the  third and final book should truly be excellent. I didn’t expect certain characters being so deeply involved in the resultant revolution and rebellion that came about from Katniss and Peeta’s action and the end of The Hunger Games. The story in both books that I’ve read so far is simple yet really effective at sucking you in and holding you there. Throughout the second book you are left unsure as to what is going to happen next. For me that is what kept me hooked, I mean the quarter quell announcement where the contestants of the games were previous winners was a big shock to me. I thought the arena where they were placed was quite interesting and I look forward to how they show it in the movie when it comes out.

As for Katniss I got more attached to her in this book because I wanted her to stick it to president snow for keeping the pressure up on because of a small gesture. I wanted to see how she reacted to ever increasing pressure and the clamping down on everyone. I actually felt extremely upset along with her when she found out that district twelve had been obliterated.

All in all I’m looking forward to getting stuck in to the next book when I get round to acquiring it, maybe it can be part of my summer reading to do. when I get to it. I also look forward to seeing the second movie as well, as based on the book I reckon it’ll be better than the first one.
