This weekend

I went up to Edinburgh and I have to say it is a very beautiful city it a shame that a lot of what I saw is being dug up or has scaffolding on it. I shall put up a couple of the photos I took up later. We were really fortunate with the weather, we just happened to be there when it was warm and sunny so we could relax without having to worry about being rained on. I went with my dad to meet his old uni mate from South Africa who was a decent guy. We went into a few pubs in the centre and I don’t normally drink but I tried a couple of beers. One in particular was actually quite nice although I’ve forgotten the name of it already so I suppose that defeats the point in me telling you about it but I’ll ask dad later he’ll probably remember.

I fear

I’m using far too much dialogue to pad out my story at the moment and not using enough detailed prose to tell the story instead. In 6 pages so far I would I have about close to 4 pages of script and only 2 of detail. Is that normal for it to be disproportionate or do I need to get more imaginative?

college is so busy

I’ve not had much time for anything enjoyable recently. For instance I’ve not added much to the stuff I was writing in about a week, I’ve not played any video games in about 2 weeks, which considering I used to play every day is a big deal. I’ve been able to do reading, but I’ve to lock myself in a bathroom to do it, which had made my family think I was doing other things in there. I get to blog still which I suppose is OK, I try to be coherent from time to time but I suppose once a rambler always a rambler.

Magnificent

So this is what it’s like to be a supporter of a team at the top of the the league. It’s odd to think that in my lifetime man city were in the third tier of English football and to have all those ups and downs along the way to where they are now is unbelievable. Of course the typical city thing to do would be to not win anything for the next 5 years. It’s been 24 hours and it still hasn’t sunk in properly yet it’s almost unbelievable.

I wonder

If I’ll ever get my space wolves finished I started painting them months ago and still haven’t finished them I’ll definitely have to do some painting tonight, even if I do find it slightly tedious. I found it a lot easier to paint my guard army because I was just making it up as I was going along and was kind of fun to try and make up my own camouflage pattern, but trying to stick to a specific paint job and style doesn’t seem as fun to do. Plus I still have Canis Wolfborn to attempt which should be erm, interesting. That reminds I’m still trying to write a story about him so I’ve got that to crack on with so I might give that a go later

The Walking Dead

After enjoying the first series of the TV adaptation of The Walking Dead I decided to get the first volume of the graphic novel to see what it was like and I immediately noticed a few things. Firstly the art of the novel was awesome and addictive just to look at, secondly although there were a few plot differences the story was still very gripping and finally as I’ve pointed out the novel was definitely different in a very good way it was darker than the show, by which I mean things like character relationships and the story and how the ending of first novel is different from it’s comparative place in the show. As far as I know all of these things are reason enough to want to read more of the novels but it wasn’t until I watched the second season of the show that I got round to buying more of the novels I got volumes 2-6 and in the three days that I’ve had them I’ve finished 2-4 and am part way through 5, these novels are so awesome it’s untrue and I’ve really enjoyed reading them and staring at the art. I have to admit this is my first collection of graphic novels or comics so I don’t know how they stand up against others but I would definitely recommend them to other readers and I would definitely recommend them to fans of the show, without a doubt they are as good as any book I’ve read recently

The Walking Dead

So I just invested in volumes 2-6 of The Walking Dead graphic novels and they’re fantastic. The art and the stories in each novel is gripping, they’re beautifully drawn and the story just makes you want room keep going. This decision to get these volumes came about after I read the first volume and finished watching the two seasons of the TV series I got hooked and I wanted to read a bit ahead ready for the next series of course I had no idea how different the novels are to the programme. Anyway I shall keep you posted on more thoughts later after I’ve read some more

WordPress V Tumblr

OK so while I’ve been doing this whole blogging thing, I’ve been using two sites to try and compare and contrast the two and as in the title they are this site and Tumblr. Since I’m fairly new to the whole blogging thing initially Tumblr was easier to use and a good tool to try and learn how to blog on, so in all honest I’ve been using that one more because it’s fairly simple to use. Once you start to use it on a regular basis, you get to see that although it is good for getting started with it’s simple user interface you do start to find that there a few minor annoyances, they are only minor but they do affect how much I enjoy using it. For example they’re doesn’t seem to be many people that post stuff for themselves, on the stream of posts that come up on the dashboard, Tumblrs version of the news feed, a good 95-98% of them are reblogged from somewhere else some of them only have a few “notes” meaning that there’s a few degrees of separation from the person re-blogging it and the original poster, but some will have thousands of notes meaning that it will just passed from pillar to post as people share it and although this isn’t bad thing in a way, it just irks me that for a site where a lot of users “hate” Facebook and it’s users for being unoriginal and perpetually sharing mundane material, they seem to act like them in that sense

WordPress on the other hand seems to be for more serious bloggers, users are also a bit more coherent when it comes to blogging, something I admit I suck at, a lot. The user interface although more complicated for noobs like me, isn’t too bad once you get used to it and the fact that you can store a certain amount of “media” to have available to you whenever you want to use is a great feature and something that Tumblr doesn’t have. I enjoy reading blogs on WordPress because they usually mean something to the person and are well thought out whereas Tumblr seems like a large collection of brain farts and emotional young people.

my little writing project

It’s starting to come together not only does it have a title, there is also the first couple of pages, I’ve also got all the chapter titles so at least I can start vaguely what’s happening later in the book. It’ll be interesting to see what it’s like when I finally finish it and then if it’s publishable, of course for a first book probably not, but it should be a good experience to try and do it just to see what it’s like writing a book.
