Meatball Making

These are the meatballs I made earlier this evening I’ll tell how you how I made them, they’re easy to make and taste good. Better chef’s could probably improve on them but I’ll tell you about mine. I should also mention when I did this I was making it up as I went along so unfortunately I don’t have exact measurements to give you

Ingredients:

  1. Lean mince (store bought the kind you might use to make bolognese)
  2. Porridge oats
  3. Eggs
  4. Cajun spices
  5. Black pepper
  6. Mixed herbs

Method

  1. Whisk eggs and put into a bowl
  2. In to the eggs sprinkle in some Cajun spices, mixed herbs and grind black pepper
  3. Put a mixture of the spices, herbs and pepper on a small plate
  4. Put oats in a small bowl
  5. Tear chunks of mince and ball them up
  6. Dip them in the egg/spice mixture and then the oats and continue to ball/shape
  7. Roll meatballs in the spice/herb/pepper mix
  8. Cook in oven at 230 degrees centigrade for roughly 5-7 minutes

That should do it, they should be ready to enjoy. Again I apologise for not being exact but I’m certainly far from being the best chef ever. I you have any question, comments or suggestions feel free to do so.

Max Brooks

One of my favourite authors at the moment, possibly ever. Having read the zombie survival guide and currently reading World War Z, I have to say he is one of the most detailed writers on the hypothetical zombie apocalypse. In the Zombie Survival guide he has covered all the essential ideas and anything else one might want to consider when the dead begin to rise. It’s so intricately detailed, you could follow it closely to the letter and do OK for a long period of time.

World war Z on the other hand, depicts a post apocalypse world where humanity is picking itself from the ashes of chaos this so detailed it’s awesome. The interviews and first hand accounts are what I imagine what they would be if they were real.

I really was engrossed by this book, the more you read the more you wanted to know how events unfolded, even though you can kind of assume everything works out you want to know all the details of how it happened. I found that finishing it was quite satisfying it provided enough closure so you felt like the story had come to a proper ending yet it was open to leave wondering how this alternate/hypothetical human universe progressed or whether it truly returned to some vague form of normality or whether the world was so irrevocably changed forever.

In summary, this book is an absolute must read for any fans of zombie related things or apocalypses for that matter. About Max Brooks I’ll say this, he is the George A. Romero of zombie fiction for me. Both his books have been incredibly detailed, sublimely engrossing and awesomely graphic and I urge everyone to go read them now.

end of my first week

So I have finished my first week of lectures, tutorials and lab work and so far it has been good, if a little tiring, I have a couple of really long days and its been really odd after four months out of education. The Programming in C is quite hard, but I reckon once I get used to it will get easier, hopefully.

This weekend I need to do some food shopping for more of the basics and a few extras, I might also go to the market in the city centre and have a look at what goes on there. I’m also going to get some washing done and go to  gym. So hopefully by the time the weekend is over I should have been slightly productive with my time.

I have a couple of things to do come monday to set things up for the rest of the week. I have a couple of books to buy so I need to do some shopping  around and try find the best deal for them. I also have to book another doctors appointment to sort out my medication. I also need to start looking for jobs, now I have my timetable it’s easier to work out when I can do paid work.I reckon next week will be another good week, so I’m looking forward to it.

Coding in C

today I had my first lecture on Coding in C and it doesn’t sound like it might be too diffucult and neither does using Unix, which was also talked about in the lecture. I does sound like it might be a pain in the arse though.

It’s probably not that once you know what you’re doing but at the moment the prospect of doing it just makes my brain hurt. In all fairness that could entirely be down to the fact that I’ve just had four months out of education and I neeed to re-adjust in to the good habits of learning and being back in education.

I have two hours of it tomorrow, in a computer lab, so maybe practice will make perfect and it’s probably just a case of once I’m comfortable with what I’m doing it will hopefully be fairly easy to do and I’m just over thinking/panicking about it.

Uni move successful

So on Saturday I moved into halls and so far it is going well. I’ve met my flatmates as well and they all seem easy to get on with, so that’s good. Everything is going good I guess I’m still not sure on the whole socialising thing.

Anyway today was sports and societies day over by the Student Union which was good, I think I’d quite like to start playing rugby again as part of my get fit, get healthy campaign. I also joined the gym today and I’m actually quite excited to go and use it which helps, although I haven’t done any proper exercise in a week so it’ll probably be a bit horrid to begin with, oh well.

They even had a Gamers Society for things like role-playing and table top gaming, so I’m going to check that out as well as the seem to do some of the Games Workshop stuff, it looked fairly decent so it might be fun. They didn’t have a photography society which I thought was odd I would have thought that would have been popular.

Anyway I suppose I should go and attempt to be sociable with my flatmates and everyone else in the immediate block of halls or else they might think I’m weird or a loser and it’s a bit early to let them in on the truth.

Almost university time

I almost can’t believe that by this time in two weeks time I will have moved in to my university halls of residence. It’s a strange thought because at one stage not all that long ago I thought I didn’t want to go to university, I thought that I would be better off trying to find work. Of course as events unfolded I came to see that I maybe had jumped the gun on that thought process. For instance I realise I was not in a good frame of mind and that I should try to get better mentally whilst trying to rectify the damage done.

Now that the dust has settled and it’s all sorted just about, it feels good that things are moving forward again and on a path that I want to travel down. I feel a lot better than I did a few months ago and I can actually say I’m the happiest I’ve been in months.

I’m going on holiday to Lanzarote tomorrow so that’s something to look forward to. It’ll be nice to have some time away with my dad and younger siblings before we go our separate ways. That does mean I won’t be doing any blogging this week but it does mean when I get back I’ll have something interesting to talk about.

I’m enjoying things again

I don’t know if it’s if we’ve found the right dosage of medication or if it’s the effect of having good news for a change, but I’m feeling good about things. I’m enjoying writing and painting my Games Workshop models which is a nice change, it feels so long since I’ve been able to get any satisfaction out of either, so to be enjoying both feels so excellent. I can concentrate on things again which is good, my sleeping has improved, so things are beginning to look up.

I’m also looking forward to going to university I’m nervously excited to be going there. I will have to find stuff to do during freshers week that doesn’t involve getting shitfaced, as I don’t drink very often, if at all, if I can get away with it. I know where the nearest Games Workshop is so maybe I’ll find sanctuary there during the day. I guess I’ll make friends but I think I’ll struggle to find ones who won’t be obsessed with drinking.

Hopefully I’ll enjoy it, it looks like a really interesting course and anything that is vaguely is interesting is within a fifteen minute walk of where my halls of residence are, which is useful. I am looking forward to making friends there don’t get me wrong, I just don’t want to be going out on the lash to fit in. Anyway I see how it goes and keep blogging as I go.

New football season is here

I’m really quite excited for this season. After watching my team Manchester City dramatically win it in “Fergie Time” last season I can only hope that the team have less dramatic ways of winning the title up their sleeves. Of course they may or may not win it, but one would hope they would do everything in their collective power to at least defend the domestic title. They will obviously have the extra challenges of competing in the Champions League and the Capital One (previously FA) Cup to deal with as well.

I’m not going to get my hopes too high about our potential of winning all three because I don’t know if they will, having only been in the champions league once before and only winning the FA cup once, so as far as I’m concerned as long as we are strong competitors in the Premier League and maybe the COC I will be happy. It will require a couple more years of experience of European football before I think the team will be strong enough contenders to go all the way in the Champions League, but I hope we get there sooner rather than later obviously.

Of course there is now way of knowing on the first day how the league will pan out, especially considering how close last season was and how unpredictable each game was each week but I’m looking forward to it and I hope to go more often this year now I’m at uni I hope my time can be a bit more flexible.

After going to the Community Shield game last weekend it was good to be back in a football crowd again. I really enjoyed the game, the banter and the whole day in general despite being ill on the day, but that was only a small annoyance.

Well I will probably do more football blogging in the next couple of months and keep updating on events of my life at university among other things.

I managed to get in to university

I am hugely relieved today after the last 18 months that I’ve and with trying to sort everything out with college and uni, I got accepted on to one of course choices! To be honest I think my biggest emotion right now is relief I’m not sure if it’s hit me properly yet, I’ll probably get more excited as the day goes on, we’ll see.

I suppose most people in my position would go out and celebrate, I don’t think I’ll go out but I will try to get dad to get a treat or something, of course failing that I will have to rob my Xbox back because he’s held on to it for far too long. Anyway back to the topic, I don’t really do “going out” so I’ll probably just have a quite celebration of some sort.

Well I should probably start telling my extended family the news and see what they think of it and all, so I shall leave this train of thought here and maybe pick it up later
